About finding balance and growth.
Two and a half months ago, I was in a surgery room, with Luar Na Lubre playing, my husband's hand holding mine firmly, and a great doctor on the other side of the table letting me know I had just become a new mom.
As my child cried to the sound of a beautiful tune, the room filled with laughter, tears, and congratulations from the medical team. In that moment, I was struck by the massive realization that my life had changed forever. Suddenly, all the horror stories—particularly common here in Mexico—about being a new mother with professional aspirations began flooding my mind as heavily as the baby blues.
I was now facing something I had heard about but never experienced, and it was as terrifying as it was beautiful. Sure, I had all the information at my fingertips thanks to the internet, but nothing truly prepares you for the transition from reading about it to living it. Naturally, I sought familiarity in one thing I knew well: digital marketing.
It's almost ironic how strategizing for a living helped me cope with the beautiful chaos of new motherhood. But with that came another pressing question: How was I going to juggle this with my career? How could I strategize my day around learning, working, feeding my baby girl, and changing her diapers?
The new meaning of “adaptability”.
There is a power in motherhood that forces you to adapt faster than agile methodologies. There I was, breastfeeding while launching a Google campaign, and putting my baby to sleep while reviewing search console indexing reports.
"Okay, so this is doable, yes. But is it sustainable?" I asked myself. It's natural for moms to power through these new changes—adaptability is one of the greatest gifts of motherhood. But I wanted to grow both as a mother and in my career. I had this vision that one didn’t have to take away from the other, and I had seen amazing women thrive in both areas before. I knew it was possible.
Now, I find myself navigating the exhilarating yet overwhelming world of motherhood alongside my career in marketing. It's a journey filled with incredible moments, unexpected challenges, and invaluable lessons that apply both at home and at work. However, it often feels like the narrative surrounding motherhood conflicts with professional growth, making many of us question whether “having it all” is truly attainable.
As I embrace this dual journey, I’ve come to appreciate how motherhood and career growth can actually complement each other. The patience I develop while rocking my baby girl to sleep translates into a stronger work ethic. The creativity I apply to entertaining a two-month-old sparks fresh ideas for my marketing strategies.
It’s important to remember that while the challenges can be daunting, they don’t have to stifle our career aspirations. Instead, they can empower us to think differently, embrace flexibility, and cultivate empathy—traits that are essential both in motherhood and in marketing.
To all the moms balancing career growth with new beginnings, know that you’re not alone. Let’s lift and inspire each other on this journey
